I'm not sure I've any Romany in my immediate line, but understand HEARNE is a Romany name.
I am desperately seeking the birth of my great-great-great-grandfather Joseph HEARNE in Norfolk about 1790. Various censuses mention he is from either North Repps or Thorpe Market.
I've checked the parish records for both places and cannot locate anything on him at the right time. I do understand that travellers might not baptize their children when born, but I've really nothing else to go on.
He married Lucy WELLER (bap. 11 Jun 1797, Westerham, Kent) Dec 1818 in Knockholt, Kent.
They then had their children in the neighboring parish of Westerham:
Sarah, 21 Feb 1819
Mary, 3 Oct 1822
William, 3 Jul 1825
Anne, 15 Aug 1829
Charlotte, 2 Feb 1834
Thomas, 26 Jun 1836
Joseph was a hack master/cab proprietor.
If anyone has any information or ideas, I'd very much appreciate hearing from you!
My great gran was Genty Roberts who married Percy Price in S Wales in the 1920s. She was a fortune teller, and her parents were Samson & Mary Anne Roberts (nee Davies). Samson was killed racing a horse on the Golden Mile near Bridgend, he had previously bought a cinema that was closing down, and donated it to the community. Samson is thought to have had Sussex and Kent links, and his parents were Samson and Matilda (nee Elliott). Genty's brothers were Jim and William, and her sisters were Celia and Arty. (Jim had 3 kids, Jimmy, Annie, and Bill). Genty lived in Brynmenyn after 1901 then Bridgend, then Newport, where she died in 1966. Id love to hear from anyone who this rings a bell with.
